Characteristics
They have hardened wing covers and are colored brownish black with yellowish to yellowish black markings or mottling. They a darker, cowl-like pronotum crowned by a knoblike head. They are otherwise known as the pantry beetle. Because these beetles can survive on such a wide variety of items, elimination of infestations is very difficult, if not impossible in many situations. All dried food products need to be inspected for signs of infestation, including cereals, packaged dried foods (e.g., food bars and chocolate) and pet foods.
